FWIW I agree, although admittedly I have used flatpak for applications that aren’t available on Guix System. I have shifted towards using a Debian container for that use case, though.
Between snap and flatpak I think flatpak is the lesser evil.
a Debian container
tell me more about this. i prefer AppImages over anything, but will use a flatpak sometimes. I resent Ubuntu’s past history of spying on users so steer away from snaps or anything else Ubuntu. I know what a container is, but is there one just for Debian? I haven’t tried Docker, but will very soon. I had a VM up for a short while for work - their software only ran on Windows.
While I personally find Flatpak beneficial and use it on my system, I think having someone with as extreme views as RMS is essential.
I also dislike flatpak and snap.
I exclusively run web browsers in flatpak
I love that no
firefox
orchromium
process has access to e.g. ~/.ssh or /etc or any number of other things a web browser has no business accessingIt’s not feasible to read the source code for every application I run now, so anything that makes sandboxing convenient and simple is very much appreciated
Snap and flatpack are for people that like docker.
People that don’t understand how things works and just want to use them. Everyone knows that.
