    A friend pays for several of these services, and they all have such terrible user interfaces that they often end up torrenting things even when they’re available on a streaming service just to be able to play it in a proper player like mpv.

    Being able to seek one frame at a time instead of in 10s or 15s increments is pretty nice, as is being able to jump instantly to any part of a file. In Netflix if you want to rewatch the end of something it takes over a minute to slowly seek 10s at a time to get back to the end!

    You can still own (well, as much as having a physical copy has ever counted as “owning”) pretty much anything you can find on a streaming service. Even Netflix shows get published on Blu-Ray eventually AFAIK.
