I like Carnet
Carnet is awesome… except its Linux client. Snap + Electron does not look appealing
I mostly use it on the phone, but I find Linux client is serviceable :)
notes - Joplin is really good and actively maintained to do - nextcloud notes. I can’t think of a keep-level app for this
For me Joplin works great for notes, website downloads, and anything writing. The nextcloud integration is dead simple and also just works. Haven’t looked at anything else since using this.
I second this. Joplin is great for notes, and they have checkboxes that you could use for a todo list (I use it for my grocery list). It’s also encrypted, has clients for all devices, and is still getting new features with an active development team. Highly reccomend
If I am going to pick an electron app I’d pick Standard notes because it encrypts storage as well where Joplin does not; yet here I am looking for a decent notes app with Nextcloud integration and does not take ridiculous amounts of resources in order to operate.
Joplin works from command-line, though admittedly I never tried. it allows you to e2e encrypt your notes also.
Zettlr works better than Joplin. Obsidian works better than Joplin. LogSeq works better than Joplin.
All three have Linux desktop apps, sync with Nextcloud, and you can edit in the browser with the Nextcloud notes app.
I used Joplin for about a year and ended up using Obsidian because it’s slick with its backlinking features. I found the speed to sync, and the way Joplin handles to-do items, really frustrating.
Logseq I think has a ton of potential but it’s only in late-alpha/early-beta stage. GPL though.
Thank you! I checked all three of them and I will try them asap. I really liked Obsidian but it is proprietary so can we really trust them? And it looks like it is based on Electron so it better be good haha
Zettlr is GPL. I’m using Obsidian for work. They’re the same people who developed Dynalist and they refuse to sell their company (it’s a two person shop). So I trust they’re not going to sell out. But if they do, it’s all in Markdown and they have export features so it’s not like you can’t port your data over somewhere else if you don’t like the direction it’s taking. IMO the data portability is one of the most important things. Re: privacy; Obsidian app has never once made an internet request with my firewall and I’ve been using it daily since January.

I like the fact that QOwnNotes is a desktop client and not ashamed about it. As the notes are simple .md files, you can use the NextCloud Notes app on the browser, some third client on phone, and have the best interface for each usercase.
Hey thanks! I know about QOwnnotes but I never used it. Maybe I can try it via Flatpak. Does it have a dark theme btw? And as far as Electron goes, I am pretty biased about that. :)

I started using qOwnNotes recently and love it. How come you say “bu tyeah qt :p”. Idk, it seems as if that was a bit of a problem? Or am I overthinking your wording? hahah sorry if I’m indeed doing so. Just curious.
