@DepressedDove advertisers will decide platform fate. The $8 blue mark stunt is just PR project to catch media attention and it worked well. #twitter #verified #Musk

@trader_one @DepressedDove a major media outlet did a poll of verified Twitter accounts to see how many were willing to pay $8 per month for a blue check.

NOT A SINGLE ONE was willing to pay the monthly fee.

Twitter is toast!

If advertisers will determine the fate of Twitter, then Twitter is going to die quickly and quietly.

The mass layoffs is proving to be an unmitigated disaster. Twitter realized too late that they laid-off engineers that are critical to the system functioning. Many engineers in critical areas that weren’t let go are quitting.

Advertisers will abandon the ship when they realize the platform is crashing too often. Love seeing Musk losing his ass with the takeover.

Engineers are quitting the platform in droves after the mass layoffs. Twitter is trying to get as many as possible back without success. The platform will soon lose all functionality.

@DepressedDove Sort of like how I feel sorry for Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor at the end of Superman

Ah yes, the 5 stages of grieving: denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance

Seems like we’ve just hit the bargaining phase.

@Ephera @DepressedDove is there a good tutorial on how to access Lemmy with this fediverse user name? I don’t quite grasp it yet

@jaskot @Ephera @DepressedDove You literally just did. However, you should know that Mastodon is not really made for interacting with “groups” (or “communities”, as Lemmy calls them), they’re kind of an afterthought. You can just follow them and comment someone else’s posts (as you did and as I’m doing right now), but you can’t create them or even post in them. I’d advise you to register to a Lemmy or even a Friendica instance, if you want group functionalities.

@junbird @Ephera @DepressedDove so install a lemmy browser, and register to one of their servers?

@jaskot @Ephera @DepressedDove That’s basically it. As I said before, there are alternatives to a Lemmy account. I use my Friendica (it’s more or less the Fediverse counterpart to Facebook, so it has “groups” and so it is able to fully interoperate with Lemmy’s “communities”) profile to post on Lemmy, and there are probably a few other alternatives which you could consider. But if you just want the Reddit experience but in the Fediverse, just become a Lemmy user.

@junbird @Ephera @DepressedDove thanks for the explanation. I want to check out all of the hubs, it’s the @user@birdserver to @user@lemmy to @user@friendica jumping between servers that is confusing me.

@DepressedDove and if you can’t afford to pay, you have no voice.
